Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert

We spent Max's 11th birthday exploring the Petrified National Park.  The park also includes the painted desert.  The weather was perfect and the views were simply amazing.

The boys were totally over pictures by the end of the day.

Max did a pretty good job getting this shot of Brian and I.

Someone is always the comedian.

We were all pretty amazed by the petrified wood.  Over time between water and other environmental factors the wood was turned into stone.  Jack was the most impressed.  For days he told people all about the wood turned to stone - with his eyes as big as saucers.

This was our first National Park experience.  The kids actually seemed to really enjoy it and it gives me hope that one of these days we will be able to venture out west to see all of those parks.
