Adventure Day

As the kids get a bit older it feels like we have a whole new world of family fun available to us.  There are so many amazing state parks around and it's about time we started taking advantage of them!  Saturday morning we packed a lunch and hit the road.
Adventure Stop #1 was Elephant Rocks State Park.  These giant granite boulders were so fun to climb on!

I mean look at Jack - he cannot contain his excitement!

We took the longer path that led to an old engine house.  The path also had this beautiful view.  I was a nervous wreck and so glad no one fell over the edge!
 My boys are sooooo strong!

I was super proud of what troopers they were.  I see more hiking in our future.

This guy didn't ask to be held until the very end of our time at the park.

Elephant Rocks was everyone's very favorite stop of the day.  It was such a nice park - there were lots of picnic areas for us to enjoy our lunch and the grounds were just beautiful.  I think we will be back!

Adventure #2 was Johnson's Shut-In's State Park.  We weren't as thrilled with this one.  The early part of the shut-ins (which is fancy speak for where a river travels over rock formations) was nice and calm for the kids.  But it really wasn't that exciting.  The more exciting/dangerous portion was down the trail a bit.  Brian and Max walked down there, but even Brian said it looked way too dangerous.

The rocks were slippery, but the water was refreshing and clear.  The boys had a great time.

They were bound and determined to catch some fish.   it was pretty cute to watch them try and try and try.  Unfortunately those fish are quick and they weren't successful.
We were going to stop at a cute general store a friend told us about, but we ran out of time.  Instead we had a dinner at one of the restaurants along the way.  It was  pretty delicious.  Our adventure day was a pretty big success.  Brian and I are already planning what our next one will look like.
