Going to the Zoo

Just like Raffi sings on Max's CD, we were Going to the Zoo today. I recruited 'Aunt' Anna to join us for a fun morning at the zoo. We were there bright and early to take advantage of the free hour. They have a temporary exhibit that allows the kids to pet sting rays. Max wasn't too sure. He liked putting his hand in the water, but he wasn't wild about these crazy things swimming around.

We also were able to go to the children's zoo. Max wasn't so sure about the goats. He touched them, but he wasn't wild about it. Doesn't Max look too cute in his little Cardinals hat?

He loved looking at the fish in the underwater exhibit. He was so enthralled that he didn't notice that mommy was out of his sight for a bit.

The River's Edge is always one of my favorite parts of the zoo. Who doesn't love the hippos and the elephants. If you look really closely you can even see a couple elephants in the background for this picture.

We finished up our morning with a ride on the train. I have to say that I remember the train ride being much longer. I'm still not convinced it was worth $10. Max did seem to enjoy it. Now I need to think of some other morning activities for us to do for the rest of the summer. I love being a teacher!

Ear Tubes

Max is now the proud owner of his very own set of ear tubes! We were at St. John's bright and early this morning, about 5am to be exact. His surgery was scheduled for 7am. He was quite the trooper through the the whole ordeal. In fact he seemed pretty excited about it at first! He got to wear these super cute little scrubs. The doctors came in and told us how things would work.

Max got a little baby cocktail of Tylenol and something to make him a bit loopy before they took him from us. He didn't even mind that some strange man was taking him away. Dr. Hardeman, his ENT, was back in the room within 15 minutes to tell us that everything went well. There was quite a bit of fluid behind his right ear, but there was no current infection. Max was in the recovery room for another 15 minutes or so. I have to say that waiting for him to come out of recovery was even harder than waiting for his procedure to be done. I stood in the doorway and waited for my little man to wheeled back down the hallway in his little hospital bed. Overall the whole thing was done in about 30 minutes. We did have to wait another 30 minutes or so before we were allowed to leave. All in all, things went very well and we look forward to an ear infection free little boy! I wonder if he will walk now?

Good News

We had our appointment with the pediatric opthamologist this morning at 8:40, two hours later we were on our way home WITHOUT glasses! Yep, his farsightedness corrected itself over the last few months. I have to admit that I am very happy with this news. I am sure that someday he will need glasses, but at least it isn't going to be today!

Max has really had no interest in television, until yesterday that it. He has officially discovered Elmo on Sesame Street. He was glued to the television just long enough for me to empty the dishwasher without 'help'. I hate to admit it, but it was nice!

Fun at Nonna and Nonno's House

Last night my mom had a dinner for my birthday. It is always fun to spend time with our family and friends! Max was of course the center of attention. I think his favorite part of the evening was when he found that he could lift the lid of the cooler. It was full of ice. He kept pulling out pieces of ice and throwing them across the yard.

Tonight Brian, Max and I went back to have some leftovers. Mom had filled Max's little kiddie pool so we put on his swim trunks for the first time. I was able to get a few cute pictures of him. He had fun splashing in the water, but wasn't so wild about getting his whole body into the pool. He also just loves to crawl around their yard and throw mulch (or eat it if mom and dad aren't quick enough).

It's Official . . .

Max is getting ear tubes next Thursday. We had our initial appointment with the ENT today and he took a peek. Max is a prime candidate so we went ahead and set up an appointment. I was very happy with the doctor. I think this will be a good thing. Our only concern is the fact that Max will be put under a general anesthesia for the procedure. They just use a gas type anesthesia, so he won't need an IV. We will just have to see how it goes!

Max has another big appointment next week. On Tuesday we go back to the pediatric opthamologist. If his farsightedness has not drastically improved he will need glasses. Since Max and I were at St. John's for his ENT appointment we stopped by their pediatric optical shop. I have been looking at baby glasses on line and I was getting really scared! Here is all I was able to really find, so you can see why!

They showed me some pretty cute little frames and explained how thing would work. I can't believe that our little man might get ear tubes and glasses all withing a week!

I can't post an update without a picture, so here is one I took yesterday. Max was all upset in his room. He wanted to get his stuffed doggie out of his crib. I handed him the dog and then he pulled down his blankets and started wrapping up the little doggie. It was too cute!

Cabinet Fun

Max has discovered the kitchen cabinets, I guess I knew it was just a matter of time. We went shopping this morning. When we got home I started some laundry and Brian put things away. Max was in the kitchen with Daddy and this is what I saw when I came back upstairs.

Max had things everywhere! He was chucking the lids across the kitchen like you wouldn't believe! Then he would crawl over to where they all ended up and throw them back the other way. He had fun like this for a good 25 minutes.

Then it was cleanup time. Daddy had a seat to help him put everything back. Max actually even helped out a bit himself by handing things to Brian to put back in the cabinet. I swear he gets more fun every day!
